What goes in the Recycling? Where do I put it? When is trash or recycling picked up?

We really appreciate having an orderly waste bin area. Thank you in advance for your help in keeping it pleasant and rodent-free!

All garbage and recycling must be placed neatly inside of the bins and receptacles between the buildings of 2168 and 2174 5th Ave.

Garbage: Garbage must be bagged and tied. Place inside the trash bins by Monday night for Tuesday morning pickup. NO RECYCLING SHOULD BE PLACED IN GARBAGE BAGS AND BINS.

Recycling: Clean recyclables that fit inside blue bins. Place by Monday night for early Tuesday morning pickup.

Recycling:

Pro Tip: use paper bags or cardboard boxes to hold your recycling!

  • Clean paper,

  • Flat cardboard,

  • Glass bottles and jars,

  • Aluminum foil and cans,

  • Steel/tin cans, and

  • Plastic containers

    NO PLASTIC BAGS, NO STYROFOAM

All recyclable material is sent to processing facilities for sorting. The materials are then sold to recyclers and made into new products.

Garbage

All garbage must be bagged and tied to avoid spilling.

Pro Tip: put this waste in the garbage: foam cups and packaging, plastic bags and wrapping, candy wrappers, chip bags, and aseptic packaging (juice boxes/Tetrapaks).

Where does it go? Any material put in the garbage is sent to landfill.

Plastic Bags/Paper Bags

Plastic Bags are not recyclable. If these bags are put in the recycling, plastic bags clog up the sorting machines! They must be cut out or ripped out by hand, adding time, risk, and expense to recycling. RETURN PLASTIC BAGS TO THE GROCERY STORE

Paper Bags are now available at store checkout. Paper bags may be re-purposed to hold your clean recyclables and will fit neatly into the blue recycling bins.

Composting

We offer composting of vegetable matter on site, and the Troy Waterfront Farmer’s Market can accept all food scraps including meat and dairy. Pails with lids can contain your food scraps of all types that can be brought to the Zero Waste Table on Saturdays at the Market.
Paper and cardboard is also compostable, decreasing our recycling footprint. Contact us regarding Composting location upon arrival.
